The director of the distribution network at the National Iranian Gas Company, Mohammad Reza Goulaei, denied cutting off gas exports to Iraq.
"There is a malfunction in the gas network in the west of the country, which has caused a decrease in exports to Iraq by 5-10 million cubic meters per day in the past few days," Goulaei told Fars News Agency and its affiliate, "Baghdad Today."
He pointed out that "gas exports to Iraq continue and will continue, but due to the intense heat in the southern and southwestern regions of the country, the efficiency of equipment in the production and transportation sectors was disrupted, which negatively affected the transfer of gas to the gas network in the west of the country."
The Iranian official added, "The average daily gas exports to Iraq were 30 million cubic meters last month, and this figure reached 21 million cubic meters during this month."
It is noteworthy that Iraq is currently witnessing a crisis with an acute shortage of electricity supply hours, coinciding with a significant rise in temperatures and exhausting weather, with expectations of a greater rise in temperature at the end of the week and the coming days.
A political bloc warned of an "imminent popular explosion" due to the electricity shortage crisis.
