{Politics: Al-Furat News} The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Gamal Rashid, met today, Monday, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, the Executive Director of the World Food Program, Cindy Hensley McCain, on the sidelines of the World Food Forum.
President Rashid stressed, during the meeting, that Iraq has good capabilities to achieve food security due to its distinct factors represented by security stability in Iraqi cities and governorates and its positive impact in promoting sustainable development, improving services provided to citizens and rehabilitating infrastructure.
The President of the Republic reviewed the conditions that the country experienced, including wars, terrorism, and sieges, which continued for decades and caused worsening conditions and a decline in services, as well as climate change and its repercussions on agriculture and water resources.
He pointed out the importance of coordinating cooperation between countries in order to improve agricultural and livestock production in an effort to provide the food needs of the people and raise their standard of living, support the establishment of agricultural projects and industries, and maximize the use of natural resources, stressing the importance of the international organization continuing its programs aimed at ensuring global food security for the next stage, and facing challenges. Impact on the food supply of many countries.
The President expressed his hope to expand cooperation between Iraq and the World Food Program to develop plans and joint coordination to confront the dangers of climate change and to revitalize the role of international organizations, especially in the humanitarian file of the displaced, and to end their tragic situation by returning to their areas after rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Rashid appreciated the efforts of the Executive Director of the World Food Program in her leadership of the program, her keenness to achieve food security, and her continued support for Iraq. The President of the Republic also praised her husband, the late Senator John McCain, and his positions in support of Iraq in many fields, and his keenness to make the democratic experience and political process a success in Iraq.
In turn, McCain expressed her thanks to the President of the Republic for his continued and ongoing support for the program to advance sustainable development plans and provide a decent life for citizens, stressing the organization’s aspiration for more cooperation and partnership. She also praised Iraq’s multiple achievements, the positive results of which contributed to improving the field of services and rehabilitating the infrastructure.
