Divisions complicate the election of the Speaker of Parliament

Following the dismissal of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, the political blocs entered negotiations to resolve the selection of a new Speaker of the Council. However, despite the passage of nearly 8 months, the crisis has expanded and taken its scope, and no agreement has been reached that satisfies all parties so far by choosing a consensual figure among the actors. Observers of political affairs believe that divisions within the components themselves have complicated this task.
Political analyst, Dr. Mujasha Al-Tamimi, told “Al-Sabah”: “The crisis of the presidency of the House of Representatives has become more complex due to political divisions within the components, and the strong convergence between the vote results between the candidates for the Presidency of the House of Representatives, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadni and Salem Al-Issawi,” and indicated that “the crisis has transcended the components.” Sunni and caused a division within the coordination framework (as the current representative of the Shiite component), so due to the difficulty of the solution, the issue was postponed until after Eid al-Adha, perhaps the political parties will reach a settlement
of the crisis.”
He added, "It seems that the political forces are in no hurry to resolve this crisis as long as the Federal Court announced that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives can manage the Council's sessions, and the presence of Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi as acting President of the Council, and it seems that Al-Mashhadani's team wants Al-Mandalawi to remain Speaker of the House of Representatives, provided that Salem takes over." Al-Issawi’s presidency, and this also applies to the team of candidate Salem Al-Issawi, but in the end the international community views this crisis as a dilemma facing the Iraqi political system, so it is necessary to reach an agreement to resolve it after Eid
Al-Adha.”
For his part, the independent analyst and politician, Dr. Ayed Al-Hilali, told Al-Sabah: “According to the data and results that emerged from the last voting session of the House of Representatives, we can say that the coordination framework, which is the largest bloc, appeared divided among itself, and indeed it does not have any “There is no clear vision to end the blockage in the legislative institution, as the presence of two candidates supported by the framework and other blocs at the same time has confused the political scene.”
Al-Hilali said, “The coordination framework and the Kurdistan Democratic Party must take action by taming the blocs within the Sunni House, starting to build a political process that will end the state of disagreement and blockage, and preparing well for a session during which a person will be chosen to head Parliament, because the vacancy of the place affects the reputation of Iraq and the political process and sends messages.” Negative impact for regional and international partners and allies and affects political stability.”
While the political analyst, Mohamed Salah, told “Al-Sabah”: “The political scene in Iraq was blurry in the previous period due to partisan and component conflicts and personal conflicts that shaped the country’s unbalanced policy, and there are many things that we have seen in previous periods that lead to the unbalanced policy of the country.” "Political stability."
He explained, “What we witnessed in the last scene in the inability to agree on choosing a person to be Speaker of the House of Representatives after more than eight months is read as confusion, which is reflected in the political reality in the country,” criticizing “dozens of members of the House of Representatives going to perform Hajj rituals and leaving...
