    Baghdad today - Baghdad
A source familiar with the meetings of the regional government delegation and oil companies with the central government announced today, Sunday (June 9, 2024), that talks to resume oil exports from Kurdistan to Turkey have faltered.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The delegation of the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region left the capital, Baghdad, heading to Erbil after the faltering talks to resume oil exports from Kurdistan to Turkey and the failure of both sides to reach an oil agreement."
He pointed out that "the talks focused mainly on the cost of producing the region's oil and transporting it via the Turkish Ceyhan pipeline."
Meanwhile, oil expert Bahjat Ahmed revealed the details of the meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation and foreign oil companies with the Federal Ministry of Oil.
Ahmed said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the meeting did not reach any agreement and the general atmosphere is tense between the two parties.”
He added, "The regional government did not show any flexibility or cooperation in this area, and Baghdad was insisting on amending oil contracts with companies operating in the region, while the Kurdistan government wanted to keep the same contracts, and that is why no statement came out after the meeting."
The Kurdistan Regional delegation, consisting of the regional government and foreign companies operating in the region, arrived in Baghdad earlier today, after an invitation sent by the Ministry of Oil several days ago to urgently hold a meeting between the two sides to reach an agreement on resuming the export of Kurdistan oil through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
The crisis of resuming exports, one year and three months after they stopped, stemmed from a dispute between Baghdad and foreign companies operating in Kurdistan, specifically over the companies’ wages for every barrel of oil produced, as the companies demanded large sums of money according to the contracts signed between the Kurdistan government and foreign companies according to the principle of participation contracts in Production, while Baghdad considers that oil belongs to the people, and foreign companies do not have the right to own part of the oil produced and sell it, but rather take money for every barrel of oil produced.
