The Oil and Gas Committee in the House of Representatives defended the project to extend an oil pipeline from Basra to the port of Aqaba in Jordan, with the aim of diversifying export outlets.
The House of Representatives said in a press statement seen by "Al-Eqtisad News", "The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee, headed by Representative Haibat Al-Halbousi, Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of the committee members, met today, Monday, with the Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, in the presence of the undersecretaries at the Ministry's headquarters in Baghdad; to discuss a number of files related to the oil sector."
The head of the committee explained that the meeting discussed the importance of gas investment in Iraq, and the necessity of multiple outlets for exporting crude oil, as details of the strategic pipeline extending from Basra Governorate to Haditha District in Anbar Governorate were discussed, and efforts were made to reach its export capacity of two million barrels per day, and supplying refineries with crude oil was also discussed.
The Chairman of the Committee added that the meeting discussed the legal legislation related to the work of the Ministry of Oil, especially the Private Investment Law in Refining Crude Oil No. (64) of 2007, the fourth amendment, where the Committee requested amendments to the law in a manner consistent with the investment environment so that the law would be attractive to investment, in addition to discussing the recommendations of the subcommittees in the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee concerned with evaluating the performance of the general managers in the Ministry of Oil, and following up on the distribution of social benefits by the Ministry.
