    Alsumaria News - Security -
The Prime Minister's advisor, Diaa Al-Nasiri, announced that the recent missile attack on the Ain Al-Assad base led to the freezing of the dialogue to end the presence of the international coalition, noting that Iraq was very close to expelling the coalition forces.

Al-Asadi said in a press statement followed by Sumaria News, "The Iraqi government held in-depth, precise and detailed discussions about the presence of advisors from the international coalition, and an assessment of the current situation, and we went through several stages," indicating that "the official position of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the Iraqi government is to end the mission of the international coalition, and that from our point of view, Iraq no longer needs the coalition to remain."

He added: "We began seriously looking to end the mission of the advisors and assist the coalition forces, and we were very close to ending these discussions and announcing the timetable for these talks, which were completely secret, but the targeting of the Ain al-Assad base (the last targeting) and the security developments that occurred in the first week of this August caused the postponement of the announcement of the end of the international coalition mission in Iraq."

He continued: "Now the negotiations have been frozen or postponed until the current situation is re-evaluated and the party behind the targeting is known. Is it really a party affiliated with the factions or a new party?" He stressed: "We want to know who is behind this targeting and what is its goal." He continued: "Certainly the strike on this date and time was not in vain... There are parties that have an interest in postponing this announcement and preventing the exit of coalition forces or advisors, and therefore they carried out this precise targeting to postpone the announcement of the scheduled date."

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced last Friday that it had postponed the announcement of the end of the international coalition's military mission in Iraq due to recent developments, stressing that there were no US forces in the country, except for those under the umbrella of the international coalition. Baghdad and Washington agreed in the second round of dialogue held in Washington at the end of last July to commit to developing Iraq's security and defense capabilities and deepening bilateral security cooperation in all fields, while the Baghdad government affirmed its absolute commitment to protecting individuals, advisors, convoys and diplomatic facilities of the United States and the international coalition countries in Iraq.

On August 5, Ain al-Assad base was bombed with two missiles, for which a new group calling itself “The Revolutionaries” claimed responsibility, and which resulted in the injury of a number of American soldiers within the international coalition forces led by the United States.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi authorities announced the arrest of five people who they said were involved in the attack on the base, while no details have been revealed about them so far.
