Wasit: Mafia corruption hinders investment
Wassit Governor Mahmoud Mulla Talal accused Mafiyat of corruption of being behind the disruption of investment in the province.
"The solution will be to deter this mafia and not allow it to fight the national product and disrupt economic life through illegal gain aimed at turning the financial currency abroad, and thus the provinces become an environment for the expelling of investment," Talal told the Journal News on Thursday.

"Over the past years, corruption and nepotism in Wasit has increased dramatically due to poor supervision and law despite the multiplicity of anti-corruption institutions," he said, vowing to tackle the situation with effective means.
He revealed that "gangs attack investors for the domestic product, for external companies trying to influence their goods to Iraq to monopolize the market and eliminate the national product."
