The leader of the Islamic Virtue Party, Ahmad al-Ghuraibawi, said on Thursday that the export of Iraqi gas to Kuwait as part of the compensations owed by Baghdad is the best solution, but provided that the gas is not sold less than world prices and causing waste of public money.

"Kuwait's approval to import gas from Iraq to bring down the compensation owed to us is an important agreement under the current circumstances in which the country is going through a financial crisis and is engaged in fierce wars with terrorism," Gharibawi told Iraq News.

"This agreement should be conditional on the sale of gas at lower prices than international prices because this is part of the waste of public money in addition to not causing damage to the Iraqi market by reducing the quantities of gas in the markets and thus lead us to another crisis."

On Wednesday, Iraqi Oil and Water Minister Essam al-Marzouq announced his country's approval of the Iraqi offer to export natural gas to Kuwait as part of the compensation owed to him.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced last Tuesday that the Cabinet authorized Oil Minister Jabbar al-Obeibi to negotiate with the Kuwaiti side to sell the accompanying gas, adding that "part of the gas will be given as part of the financial compensation owed to Kuwait instead of paying money from the Treasury For the country. "

"The joint committee of the two countries has completed all procedures related to the export of crude gas to Kuwait and is now finalizing the implementation of the agreement in the near future," Oil Minister Jabbar al-Aybi said in a press statement last week.

He added that the agreement provides for the export of 50 million standard cubic feet per day of raw gas from Rumaila field in the province of Basra within the first phase up to 200 million cubic feet a day within the second phase of the Convention. "
