(Facebook) This week, Facebook participated in key talks with European police on how to stop and eradicate online hardcore publications linked to terrorism and violence.
Officials said on Friday that representatives of the social network had traveled to The Hague to join the talks, held last Thursday, at Europol headquarters in the city.
In a statement, Europol said representatives of the Entgram website joined the talks, as well as British, French and Belgian police officials, with the aim of "identifying the extremist terrorist content and the violence being loaded and ensuring its speedy removal" from the platforms.
For his part, Vincent Simster, head of the Europol Internet Unit, said the European Police Agency has been cooperating with Facebook for two years to "limit access to online advertising."
Part of the goal is to find ways to deal with new trends, as well as "how to defend yourself against this kind of abuse."
Simster pointed out that while 99% of these publications are being identified and removed, "We are also looking at how advertisers are circumventing these countermeasures developed by Facebook."
This meeting with the Facebook announcement changes how the news is displayed on the users' pages, so that the priority for friends and family is at the expense of advertising and media publications.
