An Iraqi official revealed the postponement of reopening the "Albukamal - Qaim" border crossing between Syria and Iraq, until the seventh of September for logistical reasons will be resolved soon.
The mayor of Qaim district Ahmad Jedian said in a press statement that "the work to rehabilitate the border crossing with Syria, is done at a high rate has been provided caravans and warehouses, and it was hoped to open on September 1, according to the agreement with the Iraqi border outlets, but the deadline will extend to One or two days from the date, or to the seventh of next month, until the completion of the logistics arrangements of saving electricity and water. '
Gedian stressed that "the department of the supervisor of the port, director, passports and land transport are all ready in the port, and what remains is minor issues," pointing out that "there is great pressure to open the border crossing between the two countries, in order to return commercial activity and passenger traffic after a lapse of years."
Earlier, Syrian and Iraqi military commanders conducted a briefing on the border between the two countries in preparation for the reopening of the crossing.
Iraq and Syria link three crossings: the Yarubiya crossing on the Iraqi side, the Rabia crossing, which is under the control of SDF, and the Al-Walid crossing on the Iraqi side, which is crossed by Al-Tanf and the Al-Qaim crossing on the Iraqi side. It has been under the control of the Syrian state since the liberation of the region from the terrorist Daesh at the end of 2017
