North Korea has threatened to disrupt dialogue with the United States at a time when the US Secretary of State has confirmed that he is looking to resume negotiations with it. "Hearing Pompeo's absurd speech made us lose any hope for dialogue," an official in charge of the negotiation file with the United States told the official North Korean News Agency. "We will find our way on our own," the official added, without revealing his identity.
And last week, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appealed to members of the international community to "keep up their resolve to exert diplomatic and economic pressure" on North Korea, which possesses nuclear weapons, calling on Pyongyang to resume dialogue.
On Sunday, North Korea tested multiple heavy-caliber missile launchers.
North Korea and the United States have reached a dead end in the nuclear file, while Washington offers to help Pyongyang to combat the outbreak of the new Corona virus.
The Korean official accused Pompeo of "insulting a country whose President Donald Trump wants to build a good relationship with," referring to a letter the US President sent to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In that message, Trump suggested cooperating with North Korea's efforts to combat the Covid-19 epidemic.
Pompeo confirmed in a phone call to South Korea's Yonhap Agency and Asian media, that his position has always been "in line" with Trump's. "From the American side, we have tried a lot to move forward in the negotiations and we hope that we will have a chance to reach that."
