On Saturday, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs talked about a new policy to employ the unemployed instead of relying on protection subsidies, stressing that more than 350 thousand workers in various sectors and investment projects are covered by social security..
The Director General of the Department of Labor and Vocational Training in the Ministry, Raed, said in a statement followed by NRTArabiya (August 21, 2021), that “the main task of the ministry is to employ national labor and open horizons for cooperation with government and investment institutions in this field for the purpose of employing manpower of all categories, and benefiting from the ministry’s database, which contains about one million and 700 thousand unemployed.”
He pointed out that "the ministry is working on drawing up a national employment policy after a thorough survey of the labor market in Iraq was conducted and its requirements were determined in coordination with the Higher Committee for Planning and Manpower Employment, which includes the ministries of Planning, Electricity, Oil, Health, Education and Higher Education, Industry, Agriculture and Transport, the Ministries of Construction and Housing, Migration and Displaced Persons and the Union of Industries and the Federation of Trade Unions.
Bahed added that "the ministry aspires to maximize the role of the departments of labor, vocational training and social security for youth employment and the elimination of unemployment ."
