Political analyst Muhammad Zangana confirmed, on Wednesday, that the Kurdistan Democratic Party headed by Massoud Barzani informed the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan that it would not accept a compromise candidate for the post of President of the Republic.
Zangana said in a statement to "Al-Maalouma", "Negotiations are still ongoing between the two parties, but the Democrat is sticking to his candidate, Reber Ahmed, and not accepting a candidate for a settlement until now."
He added that "the Democratic Party seeks to go to the House of Representatives with a single candidate when the sessions return to reconvening," stressing that "the scene of 2018 could be repeated if the two parties did not reach an agreement on one candidate for the post of President of the Republic."
The Iraqi parliament, in the crisis of forming the previous 2018, was the deciding factor between the two Kurdish parties, after not agreeing on a compromise candidate between the two parties, and Barham Salih was voted on as President of the Republic at the time. finished/25j
