Today, Tuesday, the Parliamentary Legal Committee warned against leniency with those accused of the grand theft, while calling on members of the House of Representatives to follow up and disclose the cases of thefts from the caretaker government.
Committee member Aref Al-Hamami said in an interview that “the supervision and follow-up of the corruption cases of the caretaker government is the responsibility of all members of the House of Representatives,” warning against “procrastination and misinformation and the existence of loopholes to release the accused or to be lenient with these criminals.”
He added, "The legal committee is empowered by law and the constitution with the right to oversight and legislation, but the direct institutions to follow up on corruption cases are considered among the powers of the executive institution, which is represented by the Integrity Commission and the Supreme Judicial Council in addition to the private ministries to follow up on such crimes."
A member of the Legal Committee explained, "The file of thefts, which was revealed recently, turned into issues of public opinion and took place at a very critical time under the caretaker government."
Al-Hamami promised, "An incident of theft and high treason against the Iraqi people in light of these critical conditions that they are going through."
Although the page of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi’s rule has now been folded, the committed corruption files still appear from time to time in numbers that the mind cannot comprehend, at a time when the leaks indicate that three former finance ministers have informed Al-Kazemi of corruption and thefts without having the right permission. Done/25 SR
