    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The sudden announcement of Iran and Saudi Arabia's agreement to resume relations between the two countries and to exchange ambassadors and diplomatic missions within two months will undoubtedly "reflect positively on the security and stability of the region."
According to a tripartite statement issued by Iran, Saudi Arabia and China, which sponsored the talks over the past four days, the two countries will work to activate the security cooperation agreement and hold talks on strengthening bilateral relations.
The statement said: "The agreement includes the concerned parties' affirmation of each other's sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs." The statement also referred to the role of Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman and their gratitude for hosting previous rounds of dialogue between the delegations of Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Baghdad has hosted, during the past two years, five rounds of direct dialogues between its two neighbors.
With the international welcome to the agreement, he reminded Iraq of its role in "providing solid ground" to achieve this agreement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "The efforts made by the Iraqi government in this context through Baghdad's hosting of dialogue rounds between the two sides, and what it has established from a solid base for dialogues will be reflected in the integration of relations between the two sides and give a qualitative impetus in the cooperation of the countries of the region with the aim of a framework that achieves the aspirations of all parties and heralds the inauguration of a stage New".
Iran and Saudi Arabia are the two most prominent regional powers in the Gulf, and they are on opposite sides in most regional files, most notably the conflict in Yemen, where Riyadh leads a military alliance supporting the internationally recognized government, and accuses Tehran of supporting the Houthi rebels who control large areas in the north of the country, most notably Sanaa.
Likewise, Saudi Arabia is concerned about Iran's regional influence and accuses it of "interfering" in Arab countries such as Syria, Iraq and Lebanon, and is apprehensive about its nuclear program and missile capabilities, while Tehran accuses Riyadh of being hostile to it.
On more than one occasion, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani affirmed that "the stability of Iraq is a key to the security and stability of the region and Iraq's role in converging views and reducing tensions in the region."
Al-Sudani congratulated Shamkhani in a phone call between them "on the occasion of reaching the agreement," stressing that "this agreement will contribute to increasing harmony among Islamic countries, which will reflect positively on the security and stability of the region, and provide more opportunities for development and prosperity."
Observers of the agreement promised that it would reflect positively on the status of Iraq and that it expresses "the credibility that it enjoys many elements that qualify it to be a bridge to link interests in a way that reflects positively on its interests."
They praised Iraq's neutrality in the region's crises, past and present, and the need for it to maintain that in the future by not joining the policy of axes in it and trying to play a calming role and reduce tension in the region.
A member of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, Muthanna Amin, says that "the calm in the region reflects positively on Iraq," noting that "Al-Sudani realizes the danger of Baghdad standing with a regional or international axis against any other axis, and for this he works to make Iraq balanced in its regional and international relations." .
He explained that "the tension in relations between any international and regional parties in the region will certainly have negative consequences for the internal Iraqi situation, and therefore it is necessary to calm the situation in order to ensure that Baghdad is not affected by these regional crises and disputes."
Iraq's ambition does not stop at this ceiling, but rather it is trying to rush strongly to play an important and vital role in the region, gather the parties and expand the circle of agreement and consensus through its mediation to bring together Iran on the one hand and Jordan and Egypt on the other, as Baghdad hosted "separate bilateral talks" between Iran and Egypt, as well Between Iran and Jordan, according to statements by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on June 30.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian did not deny the existence of negotiations with Egypt sponsored by Baghdad, but he described them as "indirect negotiations" to resume relations between Tehran and Cairo within the framework of "cooperation between the two countries and the development of their relations in a way that serves the interest of their peoples and the countries of the region."
An advisor to the Sudanese Prime Minister confirmed that the Iraqi government "is working diligently, with determination and determination to zero crises in the region, lay the foundations for continuous stability and build the pillars of a free economy according to a moderate policy and balanced relations, so that this point of the world becomes a center of radiance and light after it was a springboard for wars and conflicts, and this is not by linking our strategic interests to each other." with each other."
Analysts believe that Iraq "succeeded this time, and before the announcement of today's agreement, to be a mediator instead of conveying messages between the two countries, as was applicable during the era of previous governments."
