Adviser to the Prime Minister, Hussein Vlamers, called for enacting a law that protects small and medium enterprises, noting at the same time that the current government is exceptionally supportive of such projects.
The Ministry of Commerce, in cooperation with the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, organized the Small and Medium Enterprises and Entrepreneurship Forum, with the aim of discussing the business environment and the most important challenges facing the advancement of this type of enterprise.
Vlammers told “Al-Sabah”: “The world depends primarily on small and medium enterprises, and major economies such as the United States of America, Germany and Japan depend on this type of projects at a rate ranging from 80-85%, and from here we can indicate the level of real support for these projects.” How to achieve success.
He stressed "the importance of keeping pace with the developments taking place in the world around us, as the world is witnessing a major transformation in form and content, and we must proceed parallel to this change."
The Prime Minister's advisor added that "the Riyada initiative launched by Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani aims to create the appropriate environment to support youth projects and to have a supportive vision for small and medium enterprises," noting that "the country suffers from a rentier economy."
Vlammers warned of the necessity of having a vision that will take the Iraqi economy to safety, and make youth a major supporter of the development process by adopting advanced technology and benefiting from golden training, stressing the inevitability of creating real projects and for the entrepreneur to start correctly, and for there to be legal legislation that protects small projects. As for the Deputy Minister of Trade, Sattar Al-Jabri, he reviewed some of what was stated in the International Labor Organization report, as it showed numbers that need to be stopped and discussed, as the report indicated that there are 4.5 million government employees and 3.5 million retirees, and there are approximately 2 million receiving the salaries of the protection network. Entrepreneurship specialist Falah Al-Jubouri stressed "the importance of supporting small and medium-sized companies for their role in supporting the national economy and providing opportunities for young people who represent an important economic force that can be invested in a way that achieves great benefits for the country."
He pointed out that small and medium-sized projects that reflect new ideas for young people can advance the national economy and complement major projects, which requires us to expand the scope of international cooperation with global organizations in order to expand this important sector.
Economic affairs specialist Anmar Iyad Maluki described small and medium enterprises as the most important tool for addressing chronic economic problems, as we have the elements for the success of these trends, namely human resources, the market and job opportunities.
He explained that the world has many experiences in this matter that can be benefited from and transferred to the country and make Iraq a real starting point for these projects, pointing out the importance of creating the appropriate environment for these projects.
