    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday (October 31, 2023), the Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, explained the fact that there is a tendency to dismiss the Governor of the Central Bank.
Al-Atwani said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today”: “We categorically deny the news circulating regarding the Parliamentary Finance Committee’s intention to dismiss the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq.”
He called on "the media to adopt the official news issued by the presidency of the committee," reiterating "full support for the actions of the Central Bank of Iraq to restore stability to the market and control the exchange rate."
He pointed out that "the committee is in constant communication and coordination in order to address the causes and obstacles with the aim of returning things to their proper perspective."
On (October 19, 2023), member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Hadi Al-Salami, confirmed that the movement to dismiss the Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Al-Alaq, from his position is continuing, with a parliamentary majority supporting this movement.
Al-Salami told “Baghdad Today” that “more than one official letter was addressed to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Parliament regarding this,” noting that “courtesy and political pressures are what hinder the decision to remove the Governor of the Central Bank from his position, especially since Al-Alaq failed in his management.” The bank and the dollar exchange rates are high and unstable, and this has greatly affected Iraq’s economic situation, and that is why the dismissal movement will not stop.”

Probably a good step in the right direction!  Anyone ever affiliated with Maliki can’t be trusted in my opinion.
