    Baghdad today - Diyala
Today, Saturday (December 16, 2023), the academic at Diyala University, Mahdi Saleh, monitored the impact of local elections on Iraq’s economy and the relationship of “party extravagance” In raising the price of the dollar, he pointed out that the end of the elections and the success in presenting the results in a transparent manner has a positive dimension in terms of confirming the concept of stability.
Saleh, a professor of economics at Diyala University, said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “ The elections are a national political entitlement and are part of the government’s program. If they are held smoothly without any problems, they will reflect political stability that has an impact on the economic dimension and demonstrates the government’s principles and success, reflecting positive indicators in multiple directions, including the economic dimension.
He added, " The fluctuations of the dollar do not necessarily result from a specific activity, but rather result from other variables, some of which are external. He pointed out that the parties’ extravagance in the elections has no effect on the dollar, especially since Iraq essentially depends, in the essence of its economic paths, on spending policy, i.e. consumerism, despite the intention to make changes. It prompts an increase in investment policy, but in any case, electoral propaganda funds do not constitute a significant amount or affect the economy, markets, or even raise the dollar, for example.”
Mahdi pointed out that “ The end of the governorate council elections and the success in presenting the results in a transparent manner without any problems has a positive dimension in terms of confirming the concept of stability, which will be reflected in the economic dimensions and give reassurance to the markets and attract investment funds because stability is an important incentive for the economy.”
The special voting process for the governorate council elections began at seven o'clock in the morning today, Saturday (December 16, 2023), with one million and 2,393 security personnel entitled to cast their vote, in 595 electoral centers allocated by the Commission for members of the security forces in all regions of the country.
This morning, election centers in all regions and cities of Iraq opened their doors to members of the security forces, displaced persons, and prison inmates to cast their votes in the irregular provincial council elections in the region.
