For months, the concept of electronic begging has attracted many followers and activists in the field of human rights, especially with the existence of tools to collect donations through fabricated stories of humanitarian cases and numbers for donations through “Zain Cash and MasterCard.” However, they remain limited but are expanding, especially with their financial temptations.
Director of the Human Rights Commission in Diyala, Salah Mahdi, in an interview with "Baghdad Today", confirmed the existence of electronic begging through the space of platforms that have become a part of life, especially with its wide spread and attracting millions, and with the push of a button you can address a large audience in less than a second.
Mahdi added, “Fabricating humanitarian stories and collecting donations through social media platforms has already been monitored, but it remains within a limited scope, especially since any case that spreads is investigated, but there are those who rely on publishing under the names of women with influential narrations of stories that talk about destitution and poverty, in a professional manner, to attract attention and thus.” Fundraising.”
He pointed out that "traditional begging patterns are still dominant until now, but the emergence of electronic begging means another exploitation of social media platforms, but in professional ways, wondering how the poor can create accounts and address thousands with sponsored advertisements."
As for Haitham Al-Rubaie, a human rights activist, he acknowledged that “most of the victims of electronic begging are outside the areas of fabricated stories that spread from time to time about humanitarian cases,” pointing out that “there are those who trade on people’s concerns, but in an effective way to collect donations that reach millions of dinars.”
He pointed out that "95% of those involved in electronic begging are men with female names because we are dealing with a business that generates large sums of money."
