Parliamentary Agriculture: Serious efforts to end the water crisis

The Parliamentary Agriculture Committee intends to host the Minister of Water Resources to discuss the results of recent meetings with the Turkish side in a move aimed at addressing the worsening water crisis in Iraq.
Committee member, Ibtisam Al-Hilali, told Al-Sabah: The committee is determined to host the Minister of Water Resources during the coming period to learn the latest results of the meetings with the Turkish side regarding the water file, indicating that Iraq needs its water share of 8,000 cubic meters from
Turkey.
She pointed out that Turkey has not yet fulfilled its pledges, which has led to a major water cut, especially in the Euphrates River, which has led to a decrease in its water releases.
Al-Hilali called on the government to take a stand to protect Iraq's water rights, noting that she had previously demanded three years ago to take strict measures in this regard.
She pointed out that previous meetings, including the recent visit of the Turkish delegation to Baghdad, did not witness representation from the Agriculture Committee, calling for the need to reconsider trade relations with Turkey, which relies heavily on the Iraqi market by 80 percent.
