    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
A government source confirmed, today, Sunday (August 25, 2024), the end of the Kalago crisis after intensive contacts between Baghdad and Sulaymaniyah.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "A series of intensive contacts between political and security leaders in Sulaymaniyah and Baghdad took place to determine the reasons for the deployment of a joint force in the Kalaju area within the Karmian sector on the border between Diyala and Sulaymaniyah, which raised a wave of questions in the past hours amidst a huge amount of rumors."
He added, "What happened was a security operation within the vicinity of the Jabal Qamar area, which is located within the borders of the northwest sector of Qara Tepe, 100 km northeast of Diyala, and it is an area of security vacuum," explaining that "the deployment comes for security reasons to secure combing operations and not to seize an area where oil wells are located, as was reported on some social media platforms."
He pointed out that "the force has completed the axes of its security plan and has begun the gradual withdrawal," noting that "direct communications are what contributed to clarifying the picture and revealing the truth about the sudden deployment of federal forces, including the Popular Mobilization Forces."
A government source revealed earlier today, Sunday, intensive contacts between Sulaymaniyah and Baghdad after the deployment of a military force around Kalago.
The source told Baghdad Today, "A joint security force has begun to deploy around the town of Kalago, within an area where there is an oil well within the Karmian sector on the border between Diyala and Sulaymaniyah, but it is directly managed by the Peshmerga in terms of security."
He added, "The deployment was sudden and prompted the Peshmerga to rush towards the force, but without any direct clash, amid intensive contacts between Sulaymaniyah and Baghdad to determine the reasons for the deployment in an area that had been agreed upon for many years as being within the Peshmerga sectors."
He pointed out that "the deployment in an area that includes an oil well may be to secure Baghdad while waiting for its investment or development, but the decision was not taken in coordination with Sulaymaniyah, and this matter created a state of monitoring while waiting for the results of the coming hours."
A senior source from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan told Kurdish media that the arrival of a force from the Popular Mobilization Forces to the Karmian areas, which include oil fields, took place without the knowledge of the official security forces.
The source said, "The arrival of a force from the Popular Mobilization Forces to the borders of the Karmian areas, which include the (Jalaw Khalid) fields, is a violation of the borders and occurred without the knowledge of the official security forces in the region."
He added, "We will never allow this force to be stationed and remain, and we called on the central government to instruct this force to withdraw immediately, because their presence is an unacceptable violation."
It is noteworthy that Kifri district is affiliated with Diyala Governorate, but it is subject to the authority of the region, specifically (the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan), and it is within the administration of the Karmian region and among the disputed areas, Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution.
