Today, Tuesday, the Minister of Finance in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Awat Sheikh Janab, threatened the banks in the provinces of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja with filing a lawsuit against them and against any employee who disrupts an accounting project.
According to a document, “The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, issued official directives to the Ministries of Finance and Interior and the Attorney General to take strict legal and administrative measures against any party that obstructs the “My Account” project for localizing the salaries of the region’s employees, after the decision to close the project’s offices in Sulaymaniyah.”
According to the information, “in response to the directives of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Chief of Staff of the Council of Ministers, Omed Sabah, sent an official letter yesterday to the Attorney General and the Ministries of Finance and Interior, warning against obstructing the project and stressing the need to hold those responsible for this step accountable.”
According to the document, the Ministry of Interior was asked to act in accordance with the Internal Security Forces Penal Code No. 14 of 2008, and open investigations to punish police officers and employees involved in preventing project employees from performing their work.
The directive also included obligating the Public Prosecutor to initiate criminal proceedings against anyone who obstructs the work of “Hisabi” employees, in accordance with the provisions of Public Prosecutor Law No. 159 of 1975 and its amendments, based on Articles 231 and 240 of the Penal Code.
An informed source reported, on Thursday (October 24, 2024), the closure of the offices of the “My Account” project affiliated with the Kurdistan Regional Government in the city of Sulaymaniyah, and the application for settlement was limited to the Trade Bank of Iraq affiliated with the federal government.
The source said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The decision was issued by the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Pavel Talabani, more than 10 days ago, but now it has been implemented."
He explained that “the application is currently exclusively at the Trade Bank of Iraq, and there is a large number of employees to localize their salaries, and there is only one branch in Majidi Mall, and there are demands to open other branches of the bank, and also to open branches of Rafidain and Rashid, to localize all salaries.”
