[ltr][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]BAGHDAD - The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced the release of some families and children from the Iraqi community held in Malaysia, noting that efforts are still underway to free the remaining Iraqis.
"With the efforts and follow-up of Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, the Foreign Ministry and the Iraqi ambassador to Malaysia, Malaysian authorities have released some families and children from the Iraqi community," ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a statement.
He added that "the efforts are still continuing by the ministry to release the remaining Iraqis," and hoped that "the Malaysian authorities will respond as soon as possible to release the rest of the Iraqi citizens."
The Foreign Ministry promised earlier Thursday to detain Iraqis in Malaysia without a legal reason for "harming" the relations between the two countries, while stressing that it would "not tolerate" this. Finished
