A Russian official has made progress in negotiations over the construction of a North Korean gas pipeline and its southern neighbor.
"The negotiations on the construction of a gas pipeline through North Korea to its southern neighbor are at an advanced stage of implementation," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgolov said Tuesday.
"Moscow hopes to create the appropriate political conditions for these negotiations," Morgolov said in a press statement quoted by Russian news agency Sputnik.
"The political situation that is developing on the Korean Peninsula is not yet allowed to move into practical implementation," he said.
He hoped that "political conditions will mature in the foreseeable future so that this project, which benefits all three parties, can be implemented."
Earlier, South Korean President Moon Jae-en announced "his hope for the development of relations with North Korea."
"The possibility of strengthening cooperation in North and East Asia, including the link between the South, North Korean, and Russian gas pipelines," he said.
He also pointed to the possibility of reviving the railway link between the two countries, and the Russian railway crossing Siberia.
