    The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq, Ambassador Moayad Saleh, the Iraqi delegation participating in the sixteenth Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines. 

    "Iraq has been keen since its accession to the Convention in 2008 to prepare national plans and provide the necessary budget for the clearance of mines," the ambassador said in the statement read during the meeting, adding that "terrorist gangs have contributed to increasing areas of contamination of mines and remnants of war." 

    "Reconstruction requires the start of clean-up and clearance of mines and remnants of war, and the need to coordinate with the Iraqi government to ensure that support and assistance reaches the responsible authorities," the ambassador said, .
