Oil prices continued to rise in trading on Wednesday, despite estimates of a rise in crude stocks in the United States last week.

The US Petroleum Institute announced on Tuesday that crude oil inventories in the United States rose 3.4 million barrels to 432.575 million barrels in the week ending April 27, while analysts had forecast a rise of only 739 thousand barrels.

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) is due later today to release official US inventory data.

By 0525 GMT, London Brent crude futures for July delivery rose 0.03 percent, or 4 cents, to $ 73.17 a barrel.

US crude futures for June delivery rose 0.31 percent, or 21 cents, to $ 67.46 a barrel.

Observers say fears of a US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran have fueled potential geopolitical tensions, which has supported oil markets.

US President Donald Trump has given Britain, France and Germany a deadline of May 12 to repair what he sees as flaws in the nuclear deal in 2015.

Trump has threatened, on more than one occasion, to withdraw from the agreement, and not to extend the suspension of US sanctions against Tehran, if the defects are not fixed; which threatens the future of the agreement.
