    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, Friday, the Iraqi Commission for the Control of Radioactive Sources reviewed several strategies in construction and daily uses that reduce energy consumption by 50%.
The head of the authority, Kamal Hussein Latif, explained in a statement that was followed by “Yes Iraq” that “the use of (codes) for environmental buildings is necessary in the investment of residential buildings, as well as the use of (thermstone) in which the conduction factor is less than other local building materials.”
He added that "following this method of construction reduces half the need for electricity, and reduces the expenditure and consumption of electrical energy," noting that "this matter prompts a change in modern buildings."
He called on the Investment Authority to resort to environmental codes, and use insulation buildings or insulating bricks, and insulating walls, and this will meet the requirements to reduce public fuel expenditure, and also lead to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Latif confirmed that “his department conducted an experiment for one of the buildings, during which all the lamps were changed and replaced with (Lod) lamps, and more than 77% of the energy was reduced,” explaining that “the matter is not related to cooling, but rather to the issue of lighting (in the Lod), why is that It has a significant impact on reducing energy demand.”
And he added, "If this issue becomes generalized, it will save us more than 50% of energy," noting that "the use of (Laddat), which helps a lot in rationalizing consumption and reducing demand for electricity, and these measures fall within the Paris Agreement on climate change, and they help reduce emissions with the presence of renewable energy entering the energy mix.”
He noted that "if environmentally friendly, insulating and non-transmitting building materials are used, we will achieve a significant reduction in emissions, and a significant reduction in electricity demand."

What are the environmental building codes?
Environmental design codes are laws that regulate the most prominent architectural requirements, in particular, the outer building envelope in terms of the layout of the openings, their size and their proportion to the wall, the thermal transition coefficient of the wall and glass layers, the air leakage through the joints of the walls and the meeting points of its elements, natural lighting, natural ventilation, and energy savings.
Environmental design codes are related to the issues that must be provided when designing to make the product as close as possible to sustainability, as buildings have the greatest impact on energy use and climate change, through pollution (emission of CO2, waste), water use, thermal comfort, transportation, In order to save energy and reduce environmental pollution, appropriate opportunities to implement sustainability strategies must be sought from the initial stages of architectural design.
