Turkey puts forward an offer to Baghdad to establish forests in the Iraqi provinces
Shafaq News/ On Sunday, the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad, Ali Reza Günay, presented to the Ministry of Agriculture a project to establish forests in the Iraqi governorates, especially the southern ones, to combat the phenomenon of desertification in the country.
The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement that its Minister, Muhammad Al-Khafaji, received today Ambassador Gunai, to discuss frameworks for agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
In the absence of the statement, the Turkish side raised the possibility of cooperation in the areas of combating desertification by presenting a project to establish forests in various Iraqi governorates, especially the southern ones, and the study of types of trees that are in harmony with the environment in Iraq, as well as agricultural fields related to the poultry file, fodder and advanced irrigation technologies.
The statement quoted Al-Khafaji, that this initiative will be presented to the Council of Ministers, to be studied and to obtain fundamentalist approvals for this.
He added, that there are recent decisions that are supportive of the agricultural sector and food security in the country.
The minister added that there are sums allocated to support the agricultural sector to face the food crisis during the coming period, pointing to the many advantages of irrigation technologies and reducing consumption by 40%.
