The Iranian delegation, which arrived in the capital, Baghdad, this morning, Wednesday, called on Iraq to expedite the procedures for filing an international lawsuit in the case of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, according to what was revealed by the Iranian Mehr News Agency and its translation (Baghdad Today).
And the agency stated, "Today, an expanded meeting took place between a high-level Iranian delegation and local officials at the level of foreign ministers between the two countries to discuss cooperation between them through joint committees in the economic and security aspects."
She added, "The meeting witnessed demands submitted by the Iranian side to the Iraqis to "expedite" the end of the official procedures and prepare the full case to file a lawsuit through the Iraqi-Iranian Joint Investigation Committee against the US government for its assassination of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, General Qassem Soleimani, in Baghdad.
And she indicated that "the procedures were disrupted earlier after a request from Tehran to the Iraqi government to issue an official declaration proving that Soleimani was paying an announced official visit to Iraq with the knowledge of the authorities."
The Iranian agency pointed out, "There are attempts to revive the announcement of the issue through the delegation that is visiting Iraq at the present time," noting that "the two sides agreed to hold a joint meeting between the committee soon," to withdraw its expression.
Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian arrived in the capital, Baghdad, on an official visit.
Iranian media quoted Abdollahian's statements upon his arrival in Baghdad, followed by (Baghdad Today), that "Iraq's restoration of its natural and active role in the region is a matter of satisfaction to Iran."
He added that "his visit to Baghdad aims to follow up bilateral issues and continue consultations with Baghdad regarding important regional and international issues."
He pointed out that "there are close consultations between Tehran and senior Iraqi officials on important regional and international issues, and we are in Baghdad today to complete these consultations."
Amir Abdollahian was received at Baghdad airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Hisham Al-Alawi, some officials in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and the Iraqi ambassador to Iran, upon an official invitation from the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
