Independent MP Raed Al-Maliki confirmed, on Saturday, the failure of the government's measures to control the exchange rate of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar and to curb the rise in prices in the local markets, calling for a deterrent monetary policy to prevent the rise of the dollar.
Al-Maliki said in an interview with the information agency, that "the government's policy towards the dollar did not achieve any tangible results on the ground."
He added, "The gap is still large between the official exchange rate and the parallel rate, and the markets depend on the parallel rate, not the official one."
And he continued, "The prices of commodities, after reducing the price of the dollar, are still high without taking deterrent measures against the harmed and traders."
Earlier today, the Parliamentary Finance Committee called on the security and oversight agencies to monitor the work of dollar sales outlets inside banks, accusing speculators and merchants of exploiting the dollar crisis to reap profits. End / 25h
