    Baghdad today - follow-up
DP World (DB World) launched today, Monday, the first direct freight service between the UAE and Iraq to facilitate the flow of goods between the two countries and make it faster, safer and more efficient.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) said, in a report followed by (Baghdad Today), that "this service launches what is known in the sector as" unaccompanied trailers", which are trailers that can be transported by sea without the driver and the trailer traveling with it, as The trailer is left on the wharf by the driver, and then towed into and out of the ship on its own.”
This service is the first of its kind in the UAE and is provided by P&O Navigation, a subsidiary of the DB World group.
This service takes about 36 hours to transport trailers between the port of Jebel Ali in the UAE and the port of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. It provides a new route between the two countries for trailers traveling through land roads, which alleviates the challenges faced by customers who use land transport across borders. The overland journey can take up to 14 days.
Unaccompanied trailers are loaded onto ro-ro cargo vessels, without the driver and trailer tow at the port; Once the trailer reaches the port of Umm Qasr, an Iraqi truck can drive it to its final destination anywhere in the country; Once delivered, the empty trailer is returned to Umm Qasr Port and shipped to Jebel Ali.
Goods shipped by road from the UAE to Iraq had to be transferred from the original truck to a locally licensed vehicle, which is a time-consuming process that can expose the goods to damage, contamination and threaten safety.
DB World's unaccompanied trailer transportation service allows cargo owners and logistics companies to load a trailer with UAE plates at their local warehouse, ship it safely to Iraq and retrieve the same trailer, unaltered shipments along the way.
The service is particularly useful for the transport of palletised cargo, large or heavy project cargo or complex pieces of equipment, due to the increased payload capacity of road-going trailers.
Rolled cargo ships designed to serve these purposes provide more flexibility to customers in planning and managing the movement of large-sized shipments on low-bed trailers and trailers with heavy axles. This results in significant cost savings versus traditional bulk operations, as goods loaded onto a trailer can be delivered directly to the site in Iraq.
Jasper Christensen, Executive Director of Operations - Maritime Services at DP World Group (DB World), said that the launch of the service represents a major leap in the group's services provided in the UAE, and innovative solutions specifically designed to enable the flow of goods; Although the Iraqi economy is growing rapidly, it still relies on crossing its import and export needs through neighboring countries, and opening a new, more efficient trade route for the country.
Riyaz Karmali, General Manager of ADSO Group, a logistics services company, expressed his happiness that the company is one of the first customers of P&O Shipping, which provided a unique transportation solution in the shipping sector, and that the new service offers great logistical efficiencies and cost savings. By reducing time on the road and crossing borders, as well as providing more sustainable solutions, for freight forwarders, freight forwarders and beneficiaries.
