A political move to change the current election law

There is talk within the political blocs about a move to change the current election law after the results that occurred in the last elections, which were not at the level to which the political blocs aspire. Therefore, there is a movement to change the law before the next parliamentary elections.
A member of the House of Representatives for the Legal Committee, Muhammad Jassim Al-Khafaji, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Until now, the issue of returning to the (multiple district) system has not been raised in Parliament, but it has been raised in the State Administration Coalition and within the Coordination Framework Forces. As for a parliamentary approach, it is not There is such a thing.”
He stated that “this law was previously rejected by the emerging and independent forces and was rejected categorically, but some parties began to sense the danger of this law based on the results of the elections that passed, and as a result there is a tendency to legislate another law, although there is nothing official yet, but rather agreements.” Between certain blocs, and perhaps there is a tendency to form a committee within their blocs and alliances to prepare a draft or idea in this regard.”
He continued, "As political and opposition forces, we rejected the law within Parliament, and then it was challenged in the Federal Court because it was not consistent with the aspirations of the people. The matter was noted by the very low turnout rate due to the voter's lack of conviction in the origin of the law (Saint-Lego)," explaining that “The change came because they did not put the supreme interest of the country and the people above everything else, and they put their interests that change and fluctuate with the fluctuation of interests and circumstances, while the interest of the country and the people is constant and does not change, so they change the law whenever they notice that there are failures in the election results.”
Al-Khafaji stated that “the elections will be held on time and there will be no submission on the scheduled date of January 6, 2026, as changing the date confuses the situation, given that the governorate elections have taken place and the councils are in the process of choosing their governments, and we must go to relative stability within the governorates.”
