    Representative Mudar Al-Karawi confirmed today, Monday (May 20, 2024), that signing the Mansouriya gas contract has several benefits, including providing job opportunities and building industrial cities in the vicinity of the fields.
    Al-Karawi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the Mansouriya gas field, which is the largest field in the eastern sector of Iraq in Diyala, with reserves approaching 5 trillion standard cubic feet, was discovered about half a century ago and two wells were drilled in it and remained without any development, even though it represents wealth and can generate wealth.” The governorate’s situation has changed from one state to another thanks to the diversity of its development possibilities.”
    He added, "The Ministry of Oil's signing of a contract with initials between the Central Oil Company and the coalition of the Chinese Jira and Petro-Iraq companies to develop the Mansouriya field is the third attempt in years after the 2014 disturbances caused the failure of its first attempts at that time," stressing that "the field's production is capable of securing the needs of the Mansouriya station." To produce 700 megawatts without the need for imports, with the possibility of increasing production within years.
    He pointed out that "there are three positives to signing the Mansouriya contract, which are the stability of the government's strategy in putting the country's wealth on the path of development and creating a qualitative transition towards gas fields in order to reduce the expensive import bill, along with the importance of such projects in creating economic recovery, providing job opportunities, and the possibility of building cities." Industrial areas in the vicinity of gas fields that extend more than 30 km.
    The Central Oil Company announced today, Monday, the signing of a contract in initials with a coalition of the Chinese companies JERA and Petro Iraq, to ​​develop the Mansouriya gas field.
    The Director General of the Central Oil Company, Muhammad Yassin, confirmed that the initial production of the contract to develop the Mansouriya gas field in Diyala Governorate will reach a production of (100) mqmq within (18) months, and achieve peak production of (300) mqmq (million standard cubic feet per day) within (18) months. 4-5 years after signing the contract.
    The Mansouriya field had previously been referred to the Chinese company Sinopec and the contract was signed with it in 2022, but in February 2023 the deal collapsed due to the Chinese company’s request to change terms in the contract.
