Advisory body to review the region's oil contracts

The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee revealed that the Ministries of Oil in the federal and regional governments have chosen a consultative body to review the region's oil contracts.
Committee member Adnan al-Jaberi told Al-Sabah: The agreement was reached to have a third consultative body between the federal Ministry of Oil and its counterpart in the region, to review the region's recent contracts and provide a summary to the federal Ministry of Oil to take a decision and appropriate position on the basis of which to re-export oil from Kurdistan.
Al-Jaberi indicated that the Turkish side is fully prepared to resume oil exports through the Turkish Ceyhan pipeline, but other problems between the federal government and the region have not been resolved yet, especially with regard to the recent contracts that are in the form of participation and have not been approved by the federal Ministry of Oil.
He added that the region wants to resolve all contracts completely, while the federal oil ministry has a vision to resolve each knot separately because production costs reach $26 per barrel, which is expensive compared to the costs that Iraq bears in producing Basra fields, which reach $7 per barrel, stressing that there are negotiations taking place between the two sides, although some contracts are secret and the companies refuse to disclose them to the federal government.
