    Economy News - Follow-up
Pakistan's Minister of Religious Affairs, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, said that companies have defrauded the 50,000 Pakistani citizens who remained in Iraq without official permits, while Iraqi authorities continue to search for their whereabouts.
"The statement (about the disappearance of 50,000 Pakistani visitors) was taken out of context and used to insult Pakistan," Hussain said in a post on his Twitter account.
He pointed out that "this number is for the past years and not just this year," adding that "these people did not disappear; rather, they failed to return, and they are not affiliated with any party or organization."
The Pakistani minister explained that their citizens "went through entities and companies for the purpose of working legally," adding, "But what happened is that these companies did not fulfill their obligations, but left them to the unknown in Iraq."
Chaudhry Salik Hussain explained that they demanded “legalizing the presence of these people in Iraq and amending their status in line with Iraqi law,” stressing that they will meet with the Iraqi Minister of Labor to sign a memorandum of understanding in this regard.
Last Thursday, the Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, expressed his concern and condemnation of the increasing number of illegal workers in the country, noting that the news indicating the infiltration of about 50,000 Pakistani expatriates to work illegally in Iraq will be of interest to him and will be investigated to take appropriate legal measures.
