    The Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq announced, on Sunday, that it is on alert to prevent monkeypox.

    The ministry said in a statement, "Health Minister Saman Barzinji and the ministry's staff held a meeting today with the World Health Organization representative on preparations to prevent monkeypox."
     
    He added, "It was decided during the meeting to form the joint supreme committee between the Ministries of Health and Agriculture and to publish preventive instructions by health institutions tomorrow."


     
    The ministry's statement continued, "The decisions included publishing instructions for citizens and tourists, in addition to holding health awareness campaigns and preparing to provide laboratory tests with the World Health Organization," explaining that "no suspected cases of the disease have been recorded so far," stressing "intensifying monitoring and full readiness."
     
    The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced today, Sunday, that monkeypox is not new globally and that several countries have recorded cases of it, confirming that no cases of this virus have been recorded in all Iraqi governorates, including the Kurdistan Region.
