The clashes between the Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers' Party in the northern areas of the Kurdistan Region constitute a continuous threat to the security of the Kurdish villages whose residents have lost thousands of acres of their agricultural lands as a result of burning them due to shelling, amidst security confusion, in addition to the fact that these villages are still threatened by new waves of displacement.

The fires that affect agricultural areas in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq represent a threat to the security of Kurdish villages first and then to their livelihoods, as the people of those areas depend primarily on agriculture.

"Hundreds of Kurdish families were affected by the fighting" between the Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers' Party, said Hassan Surshi, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, in a press statement.

He added, "These families are currently living in a chaotic security situation, especially since the PKK elements sometimes deliberately fortify themselves in residential areas to escape the Turkish bombing."

He explained that "the security chaos and the threat to the people's farms and livelihoods threaten new waves of displacement," stressing that "the greatest damage from these clashes occurred to the Kurdish villages and families."

He expressed his hope that "it will work."[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]To put an end to these battles, and to spare the people and civilian villages their woes,” noting that “the biggest role at this stage must be for Iraqi diplomacy, and the presence of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in the region must be ended.”
