    Economy News - Baghdad
The Kurdistan Regional Government on Sunday strongly criticized the federal government for not funding the salaries of employees and workers in the public sector in the region for nearly two consecutive months, considering that there is no justification behind this.
The spokesman for the regional government, Peshwa Hawrami, said in a press conference held in Halabja Governorate that the delay in funding salaries by the federal government is not due, as rumored, to the addition of 30,000 names to the payrolls of the region’s employees.
The spokesman attributed the reason for not funding salaries to the existence of political factors that fall within the approach of "starving the people of Kurdistan," adding that "there is no reasonable justification for the federal government to cut the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region."
Hawrami expressed his regret that what is happening regarding not sending salaries to the region’s employees is contrary to the Iraqi constitution, the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, the basic principles of human rights, custom, and political agreements.
He continued by saying that all the comments and requests of the federal government, especially the Ministry of Finance, were implemented by the Kurdistan Regional Government, considering that withholding the salaries of Kurdistan Region employees for a period exceeding 50 days is an "unfair" matter.
