    Baghdad Today - Kirkuk
Former Turkmen MP Fawzi Akram Tarzi called, today, Friday (November 1, 2024), to revive what he called Talabani’s initiative to end the Kirkuk crisis.
"We are surprised by what the ruling parties are doing in terms of reproducing the same mistakes and not benefiting from past experiences," Tarzi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, stressing that "Kirkuk is the best example of this, and everyone realizes that its political crisis cannot be resolved without consensus among its basic components according to a fair and just principle that relies primarily on a clear roadmap."
He added, "Jalal Talabani's initiative, which he launched before his departure, to distribute security and administrative positions among the three components of Kirkuk: Arabs, Turkmen and Kurds, at a rate of 32% and 4% for the Christian component, is the ideal solution to end the crises and create a real partnership in decision-making and balanced representation that guarantees everyone's presence and participation."
He pointed out that "some are trying to circumvent and marginalize the Turkmen by all means, although they realize that they are an important fabric in Kirkuk," stressing that "stability and fairness cannot be achieved with the presence of a major component that suffers from exclusion and lack of participation in a manner that is consistent with its size in the province," calling for "reviving Talabani's initiative because it is an important path in achieving the principle of justice."
Member of Parliament Mukhtar al-Moussawi confirmed on Monday (October 21, 2024) that the Turkmen component is being subjected to systematic targeting in Kirkuk that has a clear political dimension.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The Turkmen are an essential part of Kirkuk society and the third nationality, but they are undoubtedly being systematically targeted, some of them with a clear political dimension, driven by parties to achieve an agenda that has become known to public opinion."
He added that "the recent targeting of the Turkmen in Kirkuk requires investigation and revealing the identity of those behind them and striving to give this nationality its fair due in the decision at the governorate level," stressing that "the sharing of power according to the principle of 33% for the three components, referring to (Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen), was not implemented and the elections also did not lead to giving the third nationality its true due."
He pointed out that "the repeated targeting of Turkmen is a cause for concern and is ongoing, and we hope that the security forces will put an end to it, arrest those involved, and bring them to justice."
It is noteworthy that the member of the Turkmen Alliance, Abbas Agha, commented on Wednesday (October 9, 2024), on the non-participation of the Turkmen component in government positions after the formation of the new government in Kirkuk and its restriction to Kurds and Arabs only.
Al-Agha said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The Turkmen have been marginalized for decades, and what is happening now is clear and explicit marginalization that violates the constitution, which stipulates representation and participation of all components in the administration of Kirkuk."
He added, "Since the formation of the new local government in Kirkuk by political agreement, the Turkmen have been marginalized in their positions, and we do not wish to participate just for the sake of participation, and not to be a decoration in the administration of the city."
He said, "We will not accept without representation of 32% of our positions, and the parties currently in the administration of Kirkuk, both Kurds and Arabs, share in the injustice and marginalization of the Turkmen and violate the constitution, so they want to give us formal positions and we will not accept this matter at all."
