Donald Trump Issues Warning to ‘Dishonest’ Media at Texas Rally: ‘I’ve Never Said This Before …’

    Feb. 26, 2016 4:32pm Jon Street

Donald Trump said Friday that if he is elected president he will “open up our libel laws” so that when media organizations publish articles that aren’t favorable to him, he can sue them and “win lots of money.”
“One of the things I’m going to do, and I’ve never said this before,” Trump said at a rally in Fort Worth, Texas, “but one of the things I’m going to do is — if I win — is I’m going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposefully negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money.”
The billionaire businessman then called out two national newspapers, in particular, while talking about potentially suing parts of the fourth estate. Trump said the media is “dishonest” but “totally protected” and suggested that he will change that.
“So that when the New York Times writes a hit piece, which is a total disgrace, or when the Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money,” Trump said.
Then, pointing to the back of the room, where much of the media were stationed, Trump again issued his warning.
“We’re going to open up those libel laws, and we’re going to have people sue you like you never got sued before,” Trump said.
