The dollar fell to a 13-month low against a basket of major trade-weighted currencies on Tuesday to continue a recent wave of losses as investors awaited a meeting of the Federal Reserve, which begins later on Tuesday.
The dollar has been hurt by weak US data that contrasts with improved economic prospects in Europe and China, weakening the Fed's rationale for a rate hike in the coming months.
In early trade, the dollar index, which tracks the performance of the greenback against a basket of major currencies, fell to its lowest level since June 2016 at 93.815. The index has fallen about 4 percent in the past month and more than 8 percent since the beginning of the year.
Against the yen, the greenback fell slightly to 111 yen on Tuesday after falling on Monday to 110.625 yen, its lowest since mid-June.
