A senior US military official on Monday revealed US intentions to deploy nuclear-armed bombers for the first time since the end of the Cold War 26 years ago as tensions with North Korea escalated.
Sky News said in a news story, "Trend Press," that the P-52 aircraft are scheduled to be deployed at the Air Force Base in Parkdale, Louisiana, with nuclear weapons ready to launch at any moment.
"The aircraft processing orders have not yet been issued, but I have received assurances that the base is being prepared," General David Goldfine, chief of staff of the US Air Force, said. "This is another step to confirm our readiness."
"I do not see the move as preparation for any particular event, but it is an affirmation of the international situation in which we found ourselves and proof that we are ready to move."
In recent months, there has been a mutual military escalation between the United States and North Korea against the backdrop of recent nuclear and ballistic tests, despite Western and international sanctions.
