The US Petroleum Institute announced a rise in stocks of crude oil, gasoline and distillates in the United States last week.
The Institute said that crude stocks increased unexpectedly, while product inventories rose less than expected, according to the agency "Reuters".
Crude stocks rose 38,000 barrels in the week ending August 24 to 405.7 million barrels, while analysts expected a decline of 686 thousand barrels.
Crude stocks at the delivery point in Kashing, Oklahoma, increased 130,000 barrels, the institute said.
Crude oil consumption in refineries fell 343,000 bpd, according to API figures.
Gasoline inventories rose 21,000 barrels, while analysts in the Reuters poll forecast 370,000 barrels.
Distillate stocks, including diesel and heating oil, rose 982,000 barrels from expectations of 1.6 million barrels, according to API data.
US crude oil imports fell five thousand barrels a day last week to 8.4 million bpd.
