    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

On Sunday, the Digital Media Center (DMC) expressed its astonishment at the accounts of some politicians and institutions closing the feature for users to comment on posts on their accounts and pages on the Twitter and Facebook platforms.
The center explained in a press release: that social networking sites are based on the foundations of communication and the principles of dialogue that are embodied through comments and interaction on publications, and that the public accounts of Iraqi politicians are a public right, and therefore depriving them of commenting or expressing opinions is a violation of the principles of democracy that underpin opinion and the other opinion.
The center added that the real digital culture stands against the approach of closing the comment feature on their accounts, pointing out that closing this feature establishes a “new dictatorship” that is unique in one opinion and does not listen to the other opinion, and deprives the owner of the publication from seeing important opinions that may exceed the publications’ value!
The Center stressed that many of the comments contain deep opinions and have specific connotations or appeals. Therefore, canceling this feature means that one opinion is valid and that the idea of seeing a different opinion is not accepted.
The Center notes that some scientific studies have urged a more feasible approach to reducing bad comments or those that carry hateful language, by warning the owners of this type of comments that they can be prevented from commenting or expressing their opinions on this page or that, as it contributed These warnings reduce incorrect behaviors for many users.
In this context, the Center notes three points related to the subject. The first is the necessity that the comments bear a degree of responsibility and that they avoid insults and use immoral vocabulary; Because the comment in itself reveals the cultural and moral level of its owner; Also, this type of comments will not benefit the account holder or other commenters.
Regarding the second point; The center said: Closing comments may be without the knowledge of the administrator or the account holder, as it may be an individual decision for the page or account administrator because he is unable to accept the opinions or the way they are written or deal with them.
The center concluded its statement: The third point is that the platforms have provided a set of features that can be used to restrict the writing of some words, terms and emojis in the comments, and thus it is possible to limit the appearance of some of them in a specific account instead of closing the comments permanently. Comments can also be specified for a specific category of followers or fans.
