Today, Thursday, Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah, determined the quantities of water entering Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, while calling for Turkey's demand to release Iraq's need for water.
The Media Department of the House of Representatives said in a statement, "The Minister of Resources confirmed during his hosting in Parliament today the ministry's work responsibly and taking measures by forming an operations room to develop plans and distribute tasks in the form of partitions and make efforts to deliver water according to a fair administration to the most remote areas despite the difficulty of the current season and providing The quantities needed for the beneficiaries, especially since the volume of water entering Iraq has decreased a lot compared to previous years, noting that "what goes into the dams is much less than the quantities of absolute water, which requires following up on the plans set for the access of water to the most remote areas in Iraq."
The minister noted that efforts should be made to confront the challenges facing the ministry’s plans and prevent abuses to meet the required needs of citizens, pointing out that Diyala Governorate, for example, was deprived of agriculture last year due to water scarcity, calling for “the need to intensify the efforts of Parliament and local governments to implement The ministry's plan to overcome the water crisis and move quickly to approach the state of Turkey to follow up on the file of releasing the agreed quantities.
He added that "Turkey has not adhered to the special agreement with it for more than a year," adding that "the amount of water entering the Euphrates River amounted to 198 cubic meters per second, while it was previously 290 cubic meters per second, and from the side of the Tigris River, the quantities of water entering the Euphrates amounted to 200 cubic meters per second, while Outside the reservoir of dams is 500 cubic meters per second,” noting “their move to address the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee to demand Turkey to release Iraq’s need for water.”
