the head of the Border Crossings Authority, Omar Al-Waeli, today, Sunday, summarized the work of the authority before the Parliamentary Finance Committee, while stressing that the work of the authority is represented in supervision and control.
Al-Waeli said, during his hosting in the Parliamentary Finance Committee, that "the authority's work is represented in monitoring and supervising the work of the departments located in the border crossings, as it is close to the work of the legislative authority in monitoring and supervision," pointing out that "during his presence in the House of Representatives, he presented a vision on the tasks of The authority and the duties that it performs at all land, sea and air border crossings, up to the measures taken and the most prominent achievements that have been achieved during the previous period represented by taking strict measures to limit drugs, medicines, materials and tools that are prohibited from import.
He added, "These materials, medicines and drugs are among the most important materials that enter from the border crossings, so it was among the priorities of our work to prevent their entry, and we had repeated arrest operations to control them to prevent significant harm to the health of citizens."
And he continued, "There is government control over the federal ports, and there must be a sorting between the official and unofficial federal ports and crossings," noting that "our official sea, air and land ports are under the control of the Border Ports Authority, and entry and exit are not allowed without approval."
And he added, "These procedures are applied legally and with a high level of professionalism, and there are qualitative operations and frustration of cases of waste of public money due to the presence of some weak-minded employees who manipulate customs and tax receipts as well as invoices, and many of these cases have been seized."
He pointed out that "there is another issue, which is the evacuation of containers piled up at the border crossings, as there have been stacked containers since 2010, some of which contain chemicals present in the sea ports, and after what happened at the Beirut crossing point, we hastened to implement the decision of the Council of Ministers and evacuated them to remote areas." in order to escape from danger.
Regarding customs identification, Al-Waeli pointed out that "the Ports Authority obtained a decision from the Council of Ministers to reduce the fees for bridge scales, as it previously amounted to 500 thousand per car, but it was reduced to 5 thousand dinars cut off in order to relieve importers."
