Parliament is preparing to hold a third extraordinary session in order to vote on amending the Commission law next Wednesday, especially since the law will address the problems and extend the work of the Commission, which has reached the end of its timeline.
The Vice Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, Muhammad Karim Al-Baldawi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Amending the Commission law is one of the most important laws, as two extraordinary sessions were held for it, and next Wednesday will be the voting session on it,” noting that “the importance of the law, In that it will extend the work of the Council of Commissioners, whose term is about to end, and therefore the Commission will not be able to complete the electoral and provincial council elections, as well as the regional elections.

He added, "The extension will be for a period of six months, or until the provincial council elections and their dues are completed and approved," pointing out that "the amended article concerns the lifespan of the Commission, which is four years. After the extension, it becomes 54 months, or until the approval of the names of the winners in the councils is completed." Governorates and the Kurdistan Region elections, after which new members are nominated to the Board of Commissioners according to its law and the electoral administration.”
Al-Baldawi stated that “the most likely option is to extend it for a period of six months, as it is a sufficient period of time to complete and complete the governorate councils and approve the names of the winners as well as the region,” stressing that “the elections will proceed after this amendment, after all the problems have been addressed.”
