    Baghdad Today - Nineveh
Member of the Southern Mosul Tribal Gathering, Khaled Al-Jubouri, confirmed today, Tuesday (August 13, 2024), that the dismissed Parliament Speaker, Mohammed Al-Halbousi, had won the votes of Nineveh Governorate voters in the last parliamentary elections.
Al-Jubouri told Baghdad Today, "Al-Halbousi and his party, Taqaddum, won 8 seats in Nineveh, but they did not provide any service to the people and did not benefit the province in any noteworthy file."
He added, "Al-Halbousi focused on Anbar, while the position of Parliament Speaker is for all Iraqis and he represents the Sunni component, but Nineveh did not benefit from his presence, and he did not benefit it in anything, whether in the compensation file or the contract confirmation file or the reconstruction file and other thorny files that Nineveh needs, so Taqaddum no longer has a foothold in the province."
The Progress Party, led by the dismissed Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, suffered a severe blow after its most prominent leaders announced their defection and the nomination of a new candidate for the Speaker of Parliament.
MP Ziad Al-Janabi announced, during a press conference on Thursday (July 6, 2024), along with 10 party members, their defection from “Progress” and the formation of a parliamentary bloc called “The Initiative Bloc.”
Mohammed al-Halbousi won the presidency of parliament for a second term after a heated session that witnessed widespread chaos and an assault on the oldest speaker of parliament, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, who was subsequently transferred to the hospital due to the beating that left him unable to stand.
Political analyst Adnan Mohammed, for his part, identified the most important mistakes in the article by Mohammed al-Halbousi, which were behind the quick end of his political project.
Mohammed told Baghdad Today on Saturday (August 10, 2024), "There is no disagreement that Halbousi was a difficult number in the Iraqi political equation, especially within the Sunni component during his presidency of the Council of Representatives through parliamentary blocs and understandings with Shiite and Kurdish forces, but he misjudged the situation and went into conflict with a representative who removed him from his bloc to be the reason that made him lose everything, including the presidency."
He added, "The monopoly of opinion by Halbousi and the support of some areas at the expense of others, to the point that some governorates did not receive their dues in positions and were closer to Anbar than the rest of the governorates, and all of these are indicators and mistakes that are taken against Halbousi, pointing out that his political project has lost its momentum and the divisions that occur from time to time are evidence that we are facing an alliance that is disintegrating day after day."
Mohammed pointed out that "what brought together Progress is not an idea or a program, but rather the glow of power," referring to the presidency of the House of Representatives, and in its absence the equation will change, stressing that "the provincial council elections showed a decline in Progress's ability to influence, and it will increase in any upcoming election cycle because Halbousi's return to candidacy is contingent on the decision of the Iraqi judiciary in light of the case that was the reason for his loss of the presidency."
On Tuesday (November 14, 2023), the Federal Court decided to terminate the membership of the dismissed Mohammed al-Halbousi as Speaker of Parliament, due to the proof of his forgery, after a lawsuit was filed against him by the member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Representative Laith al-Dulaimi.
The lawsuit filed by Al-Dulaimi against the dismissed Mohammed Al-Halbousi was on charges of “forgery,” which ended with a decision to terminate Al-Halbousi’s membership in Parliament after the crime of forgery was proven.
