     For his part, saw the flags of Basra, an environment manager, Mehdi Khazaal that "the phenomenon of razing the palm groves in the districts and the areas of Basra, particularly in the areas of Abu Fertile Shatt al-Arab, is considered one of the most serious environmental problems of the province."
     Mahdi said in a statement (Il Giornale), he said that "the growth of this phenomenon is due to reasons related to housing and the reluctance of many farmers for agriculture and migration to the city, as well as the scarcity of water in most of the agricultural lands and orchards, prompting many of the owners of orchards to sell their orchards," noting that "this fact will contribute to the demise of vegetation for many of farmland in Basra province."
     He asked "to take a strong deterrent action against abusers to prevent this phenomenon and to maintain this economic wealth."
     The famous Basra frequently palm forests, according to Census 1956, the number of palm trees stood on the banks of the Shatt al-Arab nearly 50 million date palms, but this figure was declining continuously, especially after the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) and the subsequent other wars contributed to the cut millions of palm trees in addition to the death of so many of them, amounting to less than four millions according to the palm concerned agricultural affairs.
