The Israeli government on Tuesday welcomed the Iraqi delegation's visit.
"Israel, the government and people, welcomes the delegations from Arab countries and Iraq," Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Amnon Nahshon wrote in a tweet published on Twitter.
The Israeli government recently announced that three Iraqi political delegations had visited Israel several weeks ago.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on social networking sites "Twitter" that "three delegations visited Israel during the last year informally."
The ministry said the delegations "included Shiite and Sunni figures and local leaders with influence in Iraq," noting that these figures "visited the Yad Vashem museum to commemorate the Holocaust."
The delegations "met with some Israeli academics and officials," the ministry said, pointing out that the delegations were 15 members, declaring their support for this initiative.
House member Hassan al-Kaabi on Monday asked the Foreign Ministry to investigate Western and Israeli media reports of three Iraqi delegations to Israel.
